Disclaimer

Source data. Figures are taken or calculated from official releases by RBI and NPCI, and every series records which release each figure came from. Both publishers revise their figures, and their own published versions prevail. Where this site and an official release differ, the official release is authoritative.

Calculated and adjusted figures. Some figures are calculated by this site, not printed in any release: market shares, growth rates, averages, rankings, records and financial-year totals. For the latest month only, where NPCI has published daily figures but not yet the monthly total, the site shows the sum of the daily figures, marked provisional, and replaces it when the monthly figure appears. In a small number of cases, where two official RBI sources agree with each other but differ from an RBI monthly release, the site shows the figure the two agree on; every such case is listed under Corrections below and flagged in the downloads.

Bank and app figures. Approval and decline rates, volumes and shares are NPCI's or RBI's figures for each organisation as published. A decline can have many causes, including customer error, and the figures say nothing on their own about the quality of any organisation's service.

No advice. Nothing on this site is financial, investment, legal or other professional advice, or a recommendation about any security, product or service.

No warranty. The site and its data are provided free, as is, without any warranty of accuracy, completeness or fitness for a purpose. To the fullest extent the law allows, no liability is accepted for loss arising from use of or reliance on them.

Terms of use

By using this site, its downloads or its data files, you agree to these terms.

What the site is. The site reorganises official statistics into pages, charts, tables and downloadable files. It is an independent project and is not affiliated with RBI, NPCI or any organisation named on it.

Using the content and data. The site's text, charts, compilations and calculated figures are licensed under CC BY 4.0, as set out under Licence and attribution below. The underlying statistics belong to their publishers.

Fair use of the site. You may use the pages, downloads and JSON files at /data, including by automated means, at a reasonable rate. Please do not overload or disrupt the site, try to reach parts of it or its hosting that are not public, present its figures as your own work without credit, or suggest that RBI, NPCI or any named organisation endorses you or this site. Access that harms the service may be limited.

Names and trade marks. UPI, BHIM, RuPay, IMPS, AePS, NACH, NFS, CTS, NETC and NPCI are trade marks of National Payments Corporation of India. FASTag is a brand of Indian Highways Management Company Ltd. Names of banks, apps and issuers are trade marks of their owners. They are used here only to identify the organisations and systems that the official data describes. No logos are used.

Links. Links to RBI, NPCI and other sites are for reference; this site is not responsible for their content or availability.

Availability and changes. The site is provided free, as is and as available. Any part of it, including data files and URLs, may change or be withdrawn at any time. These terms may be updated; the date below shows the latest version.

Law. These terms are governed by the laws of India.

Privacy

In short: the site has no accounts, forms, advertising, tracking or analytics, sets no cookies, and does not collect your name, email or any other details.

• Hosting. Pages are served by Cloudflare. To deliver pages and protect the site from abuse, Cloudflare processes technical information about each request (IP address, browser type, page requested, date and time), possibly outside India. It is used only to run and secure the site; no attempt is made to identify visitors.
• Network error reports. Your browser may send Cloudflare a short technical report if a page fails to load (Network Error Logging).
• Theme preference. If you switch between light and dark mode, the choice is saved in your browser's local storage under the name "pr-theme". It never leaves your device.
• Offline cache. A service worker stores copies of public pages, styles, fonts and data files on your device so the site loads faster and works offline. Clearing site data in your browser removes them.
• Search. Site search runs entirely in your browser on a downloaded index; what you type is not sent anywhere.
• Cookies. The site sets none. Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie if it needs to tell people from automated traffic.
• Data in the datasets. The statistics are aggregates (totals by bank, app, merchant category, state or district) and contain no information about identifiable individuals.

Corrections

The aim is to show every figure exactly as its official publisher released it, or to say clearly when it has been calculated or adjusted. If a figure does not match the release it is attributed to, it is fixed and the affected pages and files are rebuilt.

When official releases disagree. The operator's own figure is used first (NPCI for UPI, IMPS, FASTag and BHIM; RBI's Payment System Indicators for NEFT, RTGS, AePS, NACH, cards and wallets), and the other release is a cross-check. Where an RBI monthly release differs by more than 0.5% from RBI's Database on Indian Economy, and the database agrees within 0.1% with a third RBI source (RBI's bank-wise files), the figure the two agree on is shown; the figure printed in the monthly release is listed here.

Licence and attribution

This site's work. The way this site selects, cleans, combines and presents the data, the figures it calculates, and its text and charts are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0). You may copy, adapt and share them for any purpose, including commercially, with credit.

How to credit. "Source: RBI / NPCI, compiled by Payments Report (payments.report), CC BY 4.0." For charts or short mentions, "Data: RBI, NPCI via payments.report" is enough.

RBI data. RBI permits reproduction of its published data provided the primary source is acknowledged. Please name RBI and, where you can, the specific release.

NPCI data. NPCI has not published a licence for its statistics, and this site cannot grant rights in NPCI's material. Name NPCI as the source and check NPCI's own terms if you republish its figures at scale.

Each download names the release behind every figure in its "source" column, and a "flag" column marks provisional and corrected figures. The licence text is in /data/LICENSE.txt.
